Information about Ala Archa National Park (a day trip from Bishkek) in Kyrgyzstan
Ala Archa National Park, view from the trail to the waterfall
The Ala-Archa National Park, a natural treasure trove, is located not far from the capital of Kyrgyzstan. And this is where the locals begin to show the beauty of the Chui Valley. Not only nature lovers, climbers, tourists, cyclists come to the reserve, but also environmental scientists, biologists, zoologists, and even those who want to hold scientific symposiums, seminars, and round tables away from the noisy bustle of the city. This is how the place attracts you with its unique natural landscape. An asphalt road leads deep into the gorge along the mountain rushing river of the same name - Ala-Archa. Hundreds of medicinal herbs and flowers, wild shrubs and diverse trees grow on the mountain slopes. But coniferous trees reign in this gorge. Huge forests of Tien Shan spruce, juniper, larch, woody juniper, thickets of creeping juniper and groves of birches, poplars, willows, various shrubs and trees. Nature itself dominates these parts and created this region picturesquely, allocating space to mountains and glaciers, rivers and forests.
How Ala Archa looks like in winter season
There are hiking trails in the gorge, as well as unexplored and not so popular paths as well. The famous Ratsek hut gathers its new and old friends and like-minded people. The stone hut has both equipment and supplies, as well it also serves as a shelter for climbers before continuing their ascension to the nearest peaks and glaciers. There is a hotel in the state park where you can stay overnight and relax with your family and children. Ala-Archa is a favorite place for the residents of Bishkek and of the surrounding villages. Massive stones are found along the raging river at the foot of the mountains. Many people manage to climb the mountain steeps and see a real glacier firsthand. The pointed peaks of the snowy peaks attract mountain lovers and climbers. The view from the height of these majestic mountains is worth climbing the mountain steeps. You immediately understand the meaning of the name of the gorge - Ala-Archa, which translates to Mottled (or multicolored) juniper. But not only is the juniper mottled here, everything is full of colors: eternally young fir trees in a palette of all colors of green, milky foaming waters of mountain rivers, crystal-snowy glaciers, colorful mountains and valleys, and in autumn - all shades from golden yellow to purple-scarlet mixed with all shades of orange, brown, crimson. This is how birches, poplars, willows and hundreds of other diverse trees greet autumn.
A territory of various herbs, flowers and spruce forests
Ala-Archa is primarily a protected area, which means that here you can see a huge number of animals and birds listed in the Red Book. And squirrels, accustomed to the attention of visitors and children, can be viewed up close - they are used to people and are not afraid to run up close if there is a treat for them. Therefore, when visiting the park, many people take with them seeds, nuts, baked goods for squirrels. Ala Archa, with its unique natural diversity of flora and fauna, attracts all nature lovers to its domain at any time of the year, because this place is always beautiful.
