Not very far from Bishkek there is a beautiful Kegeti gorge, rich in a variety of natural landscapes. An unruly, raging river flows along the dirt road, originating from the peaks of the Kyrgyz Ala Too, where inaccessible glaciers still stand like giants.
On a difficult rocky road, you can reach the foot of the high mountain peaksandsee the majestic glacier firsthand. It will be an incredible sight for those who can get to these places, but the way is very difficult. The slopes of a huge gorge are sculpted from clay of different colors, stones of different sizes sparkle on a narrow dirt road, and huge boulders along a stormy river, like frozen guards, watch day and night, as if guarding the peace of these places.
How the Kegeti gorge looks like in early spring
Impenetrable forests of coniferous trees surround us everywhere, we are in the very heart of the gorge, where, apart from the shepherd's tent, you can no longer see any building for kilometers. Closer to the glacier, you won't even find wild paths, this is the end point of the path for people until the wild trails of the discoverers are laid through difficult places.
But the view from the peaks of the mountains here defies any description, in the center there is a snow-white glacier, like a treasure trove of Kegeti: everywhere there are mountains and forests, and a winding river boils and roars below. It's an incredible sight, but there's a drone flying over us, and you can watch this aerial view on the Internet later.
We're going back. After breathing in the fresh air near the glacier, looking at the beautiful mountains, drinking crystal water, walking mountain paths through the mountains.
On the way back from Kegeti gorge in November
We are going to Kegeti waterfall, another treasure of these places. The waterfall is wonderful, mountain springs and streams are everywhere, recreation centers and yurt camps are compactly located.
There are a lot of people in summer: some live in tents for weeks, some in yurts, some in tourist bases and camps, and some just settle into mini-hotels and guest houses, and in winter-only locals from nearby villages, they live in this beauty, they are familiar with everything, they let their cattle graze in these places, they play national games - ulak-tartysh (kok boru).
It's also like a single family here, as in any highland village, and you look at the beautiful faces of the locals - they are as pure as mountain springs. In this gorge there is a high-altitude lake Kol Tor, about which we will have a separate article on our website.
