The hidden lake in the gorge of the same name in the northeastern part of the Terskey Ala-Too range is located at an altitude of just over 3,000 meters above sea level. Kel Ukok Lake is located in Naryn region near Kochkor. The region where the lake is located can be called the edge of hidden lakes, since they are almost all high-altitude and hidden in the foothills of the Tien Shan.

The lake is popular among local mountain hikers and tourists and it is not particularly difficult to get there. Drive to Kochkor by car, from there drive to the nearest village called Isakeev and then walk or ride a horse to reach the lake Kol Ukok. The route is very popular, and locals from the nearest village can offer horseback riding. It takes six hours to get to the lake on foot, and much faster on horseback. From May to September is the best time to visit the lake.

There are yurt camps nearby and the issue of overnight accommodation will not be acute for those who wish to enjoy the starry sky. And after spending the night in a yurt, you can really feel how nomads lived in ancient times in such unique dwellings, here you can also taste the delights of Kyrgyz nomadic cuisine to order, try kymyz – fermented horse milk; the owners themselves will offer a menu, tell you what is cooked and prepare the table.

Among the entertainment options are horseback riding, wandering through the mountains and surroundings and admire the beautiful views of Lake Kol Ukok. Those who have enough time can stay there longer and try to reach a lake called Kol Tor (there are many lakes in Kyrgyzstan with the same name) which is close to 3000 m above sea level. It is best to get there by horse, so you will have enough time to go there and come back to the yurt camp at the same day.
