At the foot of Naryn Too, at an altitude of 2000 meters above sea level, on the banks of the mighty Naryn River, the administrative center of the Naryn region, Naryn city, is located. Trade caravan routes led from East Turkestan (Kashgaria) to Central Asia, and a small fortification was built along this route in the 19th century for a pass, recreation for pack animals, and protection from robbers. This is how many cities in Central Asia arose.

When Central Asia joined the Russian Empire, a Russian garrison was stationed here in 1868, better known as the Naryn fortification, then the Naryn settlement was formed, and after that the construction of the city began. The settlement expanded, the fortification became an important point for postal communication with the Russian Consulate in Kashgaria, and postal communication was established through the Naryn fortification with Semirechye (current Almaty region of Kazakhstan).

The Great October Revolution of 1917 was marked by the fact that the city became under the control of the Red Army. In 1920, it was here that a military clash took place between the White Army and the troops of the Soviet government. After the bloodshed, Soviet power was established here.

In general, there is a delicious national dish of the same name in Kyrgyz cuisine, with finely chopped horse meat, which is very popular not only in this area, but also throughout Central Asia.

Every region of the republic is always famous for something. So, in this area, national dishes are very tasty, equestrian equipment is well made, craftsmen make beautiful warm sheep's wool hats and many other things that local craftsmen know how to do.

The city is the starting point for various routes of any complexity through the Tien Shan mountain system. And the stormy Naryn River is suitable for rafting and is popular among fans of this sport from April to November, at other times of the year it is not recommended, it is too dangerous. Even in the summer months, it is necessary to take a supply of warm clothes on hikes. In the harsh mountains of the Tien Shan, the weather often changes its mood.

Naryn is very popular with tourists and visitors to the country, they come here specifically to try the national cuisine, eat plenty of meat (almost all meat dishes, it's hard for vegetarians to find suitable dishes), horse meat is often served in various forms, but here you can taste Naryn noodles with finely chopped horse meat, shorpo will be served separately- rich broth with onions or herbs. It is difficult for mountaineers to survive in these harsh regions without these high-calorie dishes.

There are many hotels, guest houses and yurt camps around. Tourism is actively developing in these parts, every year the flow of tourists only increases, because it is from Naryn that you can get to unique places, visit beautiful lakes etc.

In the Naryn region you can still meet real Kyrgyz people with blue or green eyes and brown hair who speak pure Kyrgyz. They say that the Kyrgyz were like that before the invasion of Genghis Khan's troops.
